High Roding Cricket Club Lost By 39 runs

Match report Finally a game of cricket for the first team! Basildon won the toss and elected to bat first, which looked the correct decision at 134 for 1. However a fantastic spell of 10 straight overs from Mark Gallop taking 2 for 28 ably supported by George 2 for 28 and Gus 2 for 44 got us right back in the game. Having restricted Basildon to 211 we felt we had a good chance if we batted well.
The reply started well with Molly 59 and Andy 34 putting on 89 for the first wicket. Unfortunately wickets fell at regular intervals and we were always chasing the game. A well crafted 34 from Tom on first team debut kept us in the game but ultimately we were well beaten on the day.
Given the fact this was our first game of the season and Basildon had already won twice we should not be disheartened. With many first team regulars missing it was a great club effort to field 2 strong teams and testimont to how far we have come as a club in the last few seasons regarding playing strength.
Many thanks to Nad, Tahir, George and Tom for all stepping up today. The skipper has selection headache now for next week which is exactly how it should be.
