After a long sunny drive to Essendon, the team arrived armed with few young bloods (Freddie D, Will D, Harry W), who were missing few games due to GCSEs with full of energy.

However, HRCC’s bowlers struggled to get in to the rhythm early on, resulted in a below par bowling performance, coupled with several scoring errors from Essendon’s veteran scorers, that resulted in Nad and Tom only allowed to bowl 7 overs each, while Harry Warnes was disqualified for bowling two beamers!

The pick of the bowlers was; Amit (9 overs, 34 runs and 3 wickets), Nad (7 overs, 31 runs and 2 wickets) and Tom (7 overs, 23 runs and 1 wicket), resulted in Essendon scoring 216 for 8 after 40 overs. However, gifting the opposition 37 extras (10 byes, 4 Leg byes, 11 wides, 7 No balls and 5 penalties), can be considered as a poor fielding performance overall.

In reply, HRCC lost early wickets, Charlie (bowled for 2), Tahir (caught for 13), Pasky (Caught for 15) and Will (bowled for 0), resulted in 64 for 4, after 16 overs. Tom batted superbly for his 78 runs and took HRCC within 51 runs with 6 overs to go. Despite best efforts from Ben (stumped for 29) and Nad (25 not out), HRCC lost by 7 runs.

Pasky was awarded the coveted “Unlikely Hero” trophy (kindly donated by Alistair!) for his superb six over long-off which went on for further 40 yards into a neighbour’s garden!

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable sunny afternoon playing the lovely game at a picturesque village cricket ground.
