For the first time this season, the rain stayed away as High Roding 2ndXI made it 2 wins in 2 in a T20 match against Hockerill.

With only 6 of our players present at the toss, the Hockerill captain kindly sent us in and Andy and Gilf got us off to a steady start on a slow wicket.

However, with the pitch proving extremely difficult to drive on and their openers bowling on a tidy length, they both soon fell and it was left to Ben and Pilch to see them off. Despite a promising partnership starting to build, our third wicket soon fell and Arvind came out to make his HR debut! Some stellar hitting coupled with some positive running led to a healthy partnership being built as they both progressed into the 30s.

However, positive running would soon see our 4th wicket going down as a mix up led to them both stranded at the same end, Pilch taking the bullet after a well-made 35. Soon after, Arvind was caught when attempting to go big and we finished our 20 overs on 119-9.

Nad and George then opened up the bowling in our defence, Nad bowling a great length, giving the batsmen nothing to hit and George making the first breakthrough with their opener edging behind.

However, with Hockerill still on track for the win, the match was won in the middle overs where both Sam and Shyam (on HR debut) gave the batsmen no width to work with, each picking up 2-11. It was then left to a solid spell from Arvind (who capped off a great all-round performance), a double wicket over from Nad and a fantastic last over from Amit to wrap up the win, as they ended on 97-9.

A special mention must also go out to Tom who, although didn’t bowl, took two important catches and kept up morale as he always does!

Moment of the match, as decided by Gilf, was Sam’s first ball with a double-bouncing wide ‘lulling the batsmen into a false sense of security.’
