Springfield CC v High Roding Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 08 May 2021 at 13:00
High Roding Cricket Club Won by 53 runs
Match report
A flurry of 4 Springfield wickets for a single run saw High Roding to a 52-run victory in a rain-shortened game in Chelmsford.
With the weather affecting games across the county, the captains agreed to play a 25-over match. Springfield won the toss and sent High Roding in to bat. Openers Molly and Ben, on 1st XI debut, started watchfully on a slow track. Molly fell for 22 trying to push the run rate, but Ben changed the game with a blistering assault including four maximums in a single over. He eventually fell for 54; with this acceleration, Roding looked to push for a big total and promoted their hitters up the order. Harry, Freddie and Jeff all made good contributions as High Roding finished their innings on 173-7.
Springfield started well and with opening bowler Neil harshly removed from the attack for no-balling, Roding were forced into a tactical rethink. Freddie and Will bowled tidily with the new ball, before the experience of Gilf and Jeff was called upon. Cleverly using the slow wicket, both contained the batsmen and drew false shots. Gilf finished with 4-28 and Jeff 2-25, with four wickets falling in the space of two overs as the score advanced by a single run. Evans top-scored for Springfield with 41.
With Springfield’s chase losing steam, Roding looked to claim another bowling point. A run out in the final over brought them close, and the innings finished on 121-7. Roding claimed the victory to maintain a 100% league record and look to consolidate their early position at the top of the table at East Hanningfield and Great Burstead CC on May 15th.
