Old Chelmsfordians v High Roding Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 26 Jun 2010 at 1.30
High Roding Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
Again Mel Hussain lost the toss on a day where the toss was going to be important as the pitch being used for a 1st Eleven game had already seen 3 games on it and looked suspect (dry and the surface lose). From the first over batting looked like being hard work with tennis ball bounce at one end and low bounce at the other. Craig Miller started things rolling with some good swing bowling that was enough to see off the dangerous Westwood, caught low by captain Mel Hussain at first slip. OC batsman did very well to post a score of 176 all out . Even Mel Hussain was getting turn and bounce from this wicket and finished with 2-19, supported well by J Clarke 2-26 and C Miller finished off with 2-26 as well. As we have done all season though we lost our way in the middle gifting OC with about 30 runs in what can only be described as poor bowling on a wicket that was begging for someone to just hit a good length.
With 177 required to win, HR got off to a poor start losing opener Adam Holdgate for 12 and captain Mel Hussain for 6. With the score on 50-4 it was down to a very good stand between Travis Hussain and Craig Miller to see home HR for yet another win. Miller ended up 70 not out and Travis 67 out with just 1 run required to win. Both Travis and Craig without a doubt saved HR from what looked like being a defeat. Well done again boys
