Rickling Ramblers v High Roding Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 01 May 2010 at 1.30
High Roding Cricket Club Lost By 8 Wickets
Match report
On a wet wicket away at Rickling Ramblers, the toss was always going to be crucial in deciding the outcome of this season-opener. Sadly, newly elected skipper Joel Tadman chose wrongly on the coin flip (tails does apparently fail) and his side were forced to bat first. Rickling skipper Alex Kiff, notorious for his express wheels, opened the bowling and had an immediate effect, removing High Roding opener Steve Robinson with a delivery that stuck in the pitch and climbed rapidly, grazing the glove on route to landing in the wicketkeeper’s gloves.
Fellow opener Angus Burns was clearly suffering from a lack of time in the middle and he followed Robinson back to the pavilion after missing a straight delivery from Kiff’s bowling partner A.Woods. After Jack Hebron’s stumps went flying facing his maiden delivery in the 2s, it was down to skipper Tadman to try and steady the ship. Unfortunately for him and his side, Kiff produced an unplayable delivery that leapt up to head height off a good length, with Tadman unable to get his gloves out of line in time. Sandy Barr offered the only resistance for the away team, playing some flowing cover drives before succumbing at the end of the innings, scoring 48 of High Roding’s total of 77.
In reply, Tadman and Burns picked up a wicket each to secure a bowling point for HR but Rickling comfortably reached their total within 20 overs. Roding face Thorley at home next week.
