High Roding Cricket Club Won By 6 Wickets

Match report On a scorching day at High Roding, second XI skipper Joel Tadman won his first toss of the season and chose to insert Birchanger into bat. The away side started slowly thanks to some accurate bowling up front from Tadman and young Ashley Allington, who finished with figures of 1-20 from 6 overs. Birchanger stuggled to up the run rate in the middle overs, the only resilience coming from opener J. Bass with a gritty 53. For High Roding, spin bowling was the key, Jordan Baker bowled consistently once again with figures of 2-36 from nine overs, supported by Benji Richardson with 3-37 from nine overs and Jon Everett with 2-48 from 10 overs. Birchanger finished their innings strongly with a flourish of boundaries, ending on 198-8 from their 45 overs.

In reply, High Roding got off to a flying start with opening batsman Steve Robinson scoring a quickfire 38 before being caught at slip from the first ball of Hussein’s spell. Roding steadied the ship with a 90 run partnership between fellow opener Jordan Baker, who scored a brilliant 60, and Tadman helping out with a half century of his own. Callum Allington (23 not out) saw the home side home to 6-wicket victory with two overs to spare. High Roding travel to Matching Green next week.
