High Roding Cricket Club 1st XI v Horndon-on-the-Hill on Sun 06 Jun 2010 at 2.00
High Roding Cricket Club Won By 80 Runs
Match report
Another good team effort to keep High Roding in the cup and a regional final in 2 weeks time.
Travis again lead the batting charge with a very solid 57 for the second time this weekend. A big score looked likely again but HR threw away a great start with a middle order collapse. It started with the loss for Travis caught on the boundary when well set and in no trouble. Travis was followed soon by Mel Hussain who played a poor short that resulted in a caught and bowled for a quick 20 . Wickets tumbled at regular intervals and at one point on 110-6 looked very unlikely that we were going to even make a par score which should have been somewhere around 190. Its was really Mark , Joel and Ryan who got the batting back on track with some good running between the wickets and towards the end some mighty big hits from Joel, that helped HR post a very competitive 213. Joel finished with 38 run out on the very last ball and Mark with 39. Horndon approach was to be positive from the start especially as captain Mel had set quite a attacking field making singles very difficult. Dan Joyce looked in good nick smashing Travis for 2 straight sixes and suddenly 213 looked get-able. It was the introduction of Speedy that turned things around . Keeping Dan Joyce off strike by giving him the single(plan B), HR were able to attack the lesser batsman who were no match for the raw pace of Mark. Figures of 3-11 more or less demolished the heart of Horndons batting and with Mel keeping things tight at the other end , the run rate required started to push past 7 per over. Mel finished with 3-19 and Adrian Pask chipped in with 3-36 bowling out Horndon for a measly 133 in just 32 overs as Horndon succumbed to the pressure. Both Ryan Palmer & Travis came back on towards the end and added to Horndons woes by bowling tight lines. Its likely we get Bentley in the next round and as we play them next Sat, we should get a closer look at what they have this season. Well done boys, keep up the good work, lets stay on the tail of Bentley.
