High Roding Cricket Club 2nd XI v Sawbridgeworth 3rd XI on Sat 09 Jul 2016 at 13:30
High Roding Cricket Club Won won by 2 wickets
Match report
Hard fought win against a much stronger Sawbo side than earlier in the season.
Tight bowling and good fielding restricted Sawbo to a below par 205-4 off 45 overs on the High Roding road. Even though their opener thought he was playing in a timeless test, taking 42 overs to score 62 runs and doing us a favour!!
Tom and George bowled very economically without taking wickets but kept the score down. Nad bowled with economy, bounce, pace and swing removing both openers at either end of the innings. Peter made an impressive debut bowling in windy conditions and Harry bowled with his customary aggression and removed the opposition's best batsmen with an absolute Jaffa....wish he could bowl more of them. Cheeky send off too!!
Run chase started well as Tom (batting early and quickly so he could attend Suki's concert) raced to 32 as he put on 50 for 1st wicket with Andy off 7 overs. Andy became the lynchpin of our innings again batting superbly at number 1 making 79. Following a mid order collapse caused by good bowling and poor shot selection he was ably supported by Harry who almost saw us home with a well crafted and patient 35 before being bowled with 2 runs to get. He still managed to hit big on a number of occasions although for the first time this year actually played some defensive shots. A well paced run chase was finished by skipper, Richard Pilcher, who silenced the noisy sniping and sledging from Sawbo with a breezy 24 not out.
Man of the Match: Andy Duke's chanceless 79.
Plays of the Day: Harry's Jaffa and George's economic bowling.
