Theydon Bois 2nd XI v High Roding Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 13:30
High Roding Cricket Club Won 55 runs
Match report
Another great team effort from the 2nd XI to beat Theydon Bois II by 55 runs on a sticky, hot and humid day.
High Roding II won the toss and elected to bat on a warm sunny day, expecting another run fest. However, the pitch was slow and unpredictable and Theydon's opening bowlers proved to be a handful on this difficult surface. Grant Tavare-Murray dropped anchor and 'raced' to a 55 ball 12 runs before getting bowled in the 24th over. The rest of the top order struggled to time the ball and although made starts High Roding were 120-7 off 29 overs and Theydon were on top. However, a well crafted and elegant 61 not out from Alistair Bushell accompanied by some stout hitting by Jamie Smart (37) and Dave Mack (12) wrestled the advantage form Theydon as High Roding reached 209-9 off 45 overs. Momentum had swung towards High Roding and Theydon's body language betrayed a feeling that they had let the game slip.
The visitors then set about restricting the home team's run chase with accurate bowling, super fielding and some unbelievable catching. Theydon struggled to gain momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals as all High Roding's bowlers performed admirably bowling good lines and with economy to dismiss Theydon for 154 off 39.2 overs.
Man of the Match - Alistair Bushell's match-winning 61 not out and brilliant catching in the deep. One shot was heading for 6 when he lept to his right and caught the ball one handed at full stretch...awesome!!!!
Play of the Day - Grant's 3 catches in the gully...one easy and two absolute screamers.
Young Guns - Jamie Smart for his 37, George Haddon for tight bowling and Harry's bowling and one handed diving catch (an inch off the ground) to finish the Theydon innings.
