Little Hallingbury v High Roding Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 30 Jul 2016 at 13:30
High Roding Cricket Club Won By 2 wickets
Match report
Phew.....a close tight win over the league leaders on a difficult pitch. High Roding visited the bowlers' paradise of Little Hallingbury on a hot and humid day with plenty of cloud cover. Skipper RP won a crucial toss for the 2nd week running in a 'must win' game for High Roding.
Adrian and Nad made excellent use of the conditions and were ably supported by some very good fielding, catching and field placement set by the HR 2nd XI Cricket Committee!! After 20 overs bowled by the openers the home side were reduced to 55-5. Sam, Tom and Ricardo then followed up to keep the pressure on as Hallingbury were bowled out for 132 off 35.3 overs. Commitment and discipline were the order of the day as there were only 2 wides, no no balls and no byes conceded. RP took 4 catches at the wicket and Welly took an excellent one handed diving catch an inch from the ground at slip. Alistair caught both openers off high balls in the first 10 balls of the innings.
High Roding's run chase got off to a good start against some hostile bowling from J. Fensom ( the division's top bowler and scorer of 50 in Hallingbury's innings). Welly (44) batted superbly at the top of the order supported by Tom (13) as survival was the order of the day. Wickets fell at regular intervals but nobody threw their wicket away in tough conditions and contributions from Sam (17) and Ricardo (15) and lower scores from others during relatively long stays at the wicket helped blunt Hallingbury's attack and see off Fensom in his 2nd spell of 4-0-16-3. With the score at 97-8 opening bowlers Nad and Adrian mixed careful defence with big hitting to complete the run chase as the visitors reached their target off 34.1 overs.
