High Roding Cricket Club Lost By 5 runs

Match report A great game of cricket with our opponents, Stansted IX, closing out the match in the final over at 8pm to win by 5 runs.

High Roding won the toss and elected to field in hot and humid conditions on a well prepared wicket with a short boundary on one side and one the size of a continent on the other! Stansted's wicket is very similar to High Roding's. Stansted lost an early wicket and then put on careful stands of 70 and 42 for the second and third wickets to reach 118-2 off 22 overs with Ben Sammons (57) and Edwards (44) batting well against some disciplined bowling and fielding from HR. Ricardo Smith then bowled superbly to take 3 wickets to reduce Stansted to 131-5. However, in the second half of the innings the skies cleared and batting became easier. C Allen made a superbly crafted 119 not out with some clean hitting and massive sixes. HR's out cricket faltered for the first time this season as 4 catches were dropped and Stansted reached 280-7 off 45 overs.

The High Roding reply started well as the score reached 17 without loss of 2 overs when Grant was caught behind. Andy (102)and Tom (86) batted exceptionally well and took the score to 164-1 before they both fell in the same over to some canny spin bowling by M Allen (5-0-23-4).3 quick wickets then fell as Stansted started to bowl better and the cloud cover and humidity grew as batting became more difficult. High Roding continued to chip away at the lead lead by RP (23) and some late hitting by Nad (17). Needing 10 off the last over, with fielders back on the boundary, 4 runs were scored and Stansted won by 5 runs.

A great game of cricket played in excellent spirit to round off the season.
