Sawbridgeworth 3rd XI v High Roding Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 05 May 2018 at 13:30
High Roding Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
A lovely sunny day to start the season. HR won the toss and, with our strong bowling attack, we decided to bowl first. George got us off to a great start with a wicket in his first over inducing an edge which Pilch took nonchalantly one handed. This was followed by an excellent debut from Amit who bowled his 9 overs straight through, only conceding 15 runs. Will produced two lovely spells of bowling and took a well deserved wicket with his final delivery, whilst Derek and Gilf showed their class with 3 wickets each. Sawbridgeworth were 86-8, but some mature batting from two of their colts saw them set a target of 129.
In reply, Steve and Atik look untroubled for the first couple of overs until Atik got a tricky seaming delivery which he just managed to edge behind. From then on, it was the Steve and Gilf show as they proceeded to score mainly in boundaries - with Gilf continuing his amazing form against Sawbridgeworth and Steve making up for being overlooked for a bowl! They managed to knock off the runs in a mere 17 overs for a good first win of the season.
Thanks to everyone for their effort, support and enthusiasm - it was an enjoyable way to start the season with some great cricket on show and a match played in the right spirit throughout. Particular thanks to Welly and Ben who did not get a bat or a bowl, but had the pleasure of being padded up for Gilf and Steve's 117 run partnership, and to Derek for scoring.
As a final note, Sawbridgeworth have put in a request that Gilf takes his holiday for the return fixture!
