High Roding Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets

Match report Another hot day and another toss won by High Roding. Having decided to bat first, we faltered slightly to 39 for 2, before Rich and Welly brought some stability and hard hitting to the innings. Rich reached his second consecutive fifty before he fell for 58 having been struggling with his achilles for the latter part of his innings. There then followed a mini-collapse as we went from 104 for 2 to 132 for 6, although Welly fell for a very well made 41. At this point, we looked in danger of being skittled. However, some very mature batting and innings rebuilding from Sam and Jamie who put on 80 together helped us build up a competitive score, before a late innings cameo from Ben (23no off 14 balls) saw us reach a better than hoped for total of 246. Congratulations to Sam who reached 47 before being caught superbly by their WK and to Jamie who made 35 - they were both crucial and well played innings in the circumstances.

At the halfway point, we really thought we were in a good position. However, the High Beach openers played superbly in putting on 220 together to comfortably ease High Beach to victory. They obviously know the conditions well at High Beach and hit true and hard through the ball, offering very few chances. Credit to the bowlers for sticking to their task and actually bowling pretty well despite what the score suggests - it was just one of those days. Tom came on a for a few later overs to give the batsman some banter as well as bowling to deal with, and promptly suckered their opener into playing a big shot which Harry caught well on the boundary. Thanks also to Simon O, for stepping in as substitute fielder for Rich, and for the team in general for keeping their spirits up throughout the High Beach innings and keeping going until the end.
