High Roding Cricket Club 1st XI v South Weald 1st XI on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 13:00
High Roding Cricket Club Won By 134 runs
Match report
Thankfully another toss won and a chance to bat first on a blistering hot day. The innings started well thanks mainly to our new man byes and was then dominated by a wonderful knock from Chris who scored a magnificent 125, only getting out in the last over after batting the best part of 37 overs. Derek supported Chris with a well crafted 41 playing some cracking trademark cover drives, most finding their best fielder! With extras contributing 52, a score of 292 looked a competitive total although we knew from earlier in the season that South Weald's batting line up was strong.
After another excellent tea, this week's offering was a Mark Gilfrin special, we bowled and fielded superbly. Mark Gallop again opened the bowling and his spell of 10 overs produced 3 wickets. At the other end Kit again showed what a force he is, picking up 2 wickets and always looking threatening. Good spells from Freddie and Derek kept the pressure on in the middle overs and it was left to Nad to mop up the tail with yet another 3 wickets.
A special mention in the field to Pilch and Freddie who set the standards today, both took wonderful catches and Pilch's catch to dismiss their star man was a crucial part of the game. The ground fielding on a hot day and a tricky outfield was the best of the season and a huge difference between the two sides.
A winning margin of 134 runs against the league leaders was a fantastic effort and thoroughly deserved. Hopefully we can keep the winning run going next week against Eastwood if people don't over indulge in the now world famous Nad teas!!
