High Roding Cricket Club 1st XI v Ingatestone on Sat 08 Jun 2019 at 13.00
High Roding Cricket Club Lost By 3 runs
Match report
High Roding won the toss again and with a damp outfield but drying conditions decided to bowl. A fiery opening spell from Freddie Burns produced 2 wickets. The second thanks to an outstanding full length diving catch from Freddie Duke. However the Ingatestone batsman consistently punished any bad balls and despite none of them reaching 50 the opposition finished on a very competitive 267 for 6. A special mention to Richard Cross on full debut, bowling uphill into the wind, he produced a fine spell of 1 for 42 and was very unlucky not to pick up more wickets.
In reply we again lost 2 early wickets but Molly and Jeff then took centre stage adding a magnificent 179 for the third wicket. When Jeff was bowled for 74 the game was still very much in the balance. Molly continued on his way to a superb 126 and with a run rate of 7 an over needed in the last 8 overs the two youngsters Harry and Freddie batted with great maturity with 28 and 13 not out respectively. Despite coming up 3 runs short it was an excellent game of cricket and shows the strength of depth at the club with a completely different bowling attack used from the week before at Eastwood.
Hopefully the first win is just around the corner staring at Noak Hill next week!
