High Roding Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Freddie Burns, WhatsApp, Friday, 20:51: "Honestly can’t wait to beat terling man"
Freddie Burns, Saturday, 19:32: *hits winning runs from penultimate ball to beat Terling by 4 wickets*
We won the toss and asked Terling to bat, and after 30 overs this looked a shrewd decision, with the triple-pronged Roding pace attack restricting the visitors to 105-4. Kit and Archie started brightly and were unlucky not to be rewarded as some early edges flew through the slips. First-change Freddie was the pick of the bowling attack, claiming 3-32 in his 10-over spell, including the wicket of well-set opener Rahul Jagota for 44. He needs Friday mojitos more often.
With Roding on top, the Terling middle order counter-attacked in the last 15 overs and some clean hitting to the shorter boundary yielded an innings total of 229-7. Josh did well after stuttering with his early rhythm and held up his end for his 10 overs. Owen Dawson top-scored for Terling with 72, striking 10 boundaries.
Sam and Molly opened up the chase. Both batsmen looked in decent touch (excluding Sam's consecutive edges for four to get off the mark) and made good starts before finding ways to get out for 30 and 18 respectively. An excellent 90-run third wicket partnership between Chris (44) and George (59) kept up the innings’ momentum and never allowed the required run-rate to get out of hand.
Roding reached the last five overs requiring 44 runs, with contributions from Walter (25) and Gus (12). Good running and some timely boundaries brought the target to 8 runs from 6 balls. In a tense finale, Freddie took centre-stage again, clipping a four to fine leg before sprinting two from the penultimate ball to claim a well-earned High Roding win.
