High Roding Cricket Club Won by 4 Runs

Match report High Roding won the toss in the season opener on what looked a very good wicket. At 11 for 3 the decision to bat first was looking questionable! However Rich MJ with 25 and Harry steadied the ship to take the score to 84. Pilcher Snr joined his son at the crease with the departure of Pasky and a wonderful partnership of 134 really got us back in the game. Harry with a maiden century eventually fell for 115, ably supported by Richard with 72. The innngs closed on 255 for 7, a fine effort after a dodgy start.
Rettendon started slowly in the main due to a tight opening spell from Nad and Amit. However their opening bat looked a good player and a few missed chances later nearly cost us. With Gilf injured after 2 overs Adrian and Mukky bowled their 9 over spells straight through. Mukky was particularly unlucky not to take a wicket but as ever Adrian with 3 for 38 was the pick of the bowlers. Rich and Harry filled in for Gilf's over and both did a good job but the game was in the balance whilst the opener was in. Eventually the game came down to the last over with 6 to win off the last ball. Nad held his nerve despite the "leftie" hitting to the short side of the ground and we restricted him to a single to leave him 143 not out.
An excellent start to the season in division 6 against a team who finished mid table last year. With the news coming in that both the first and third teams had also won it ended a very enjoyable day on a great note.
