Match report Having lost the toss in this winner takes all game we were unsurprisingly asked to bowl first on what looked like a very good pitch. The skipper was delighted to have so many bowling options at his disposal and was confident we could keep Brookweald down to a defendable total. Archie and Simon opened with a very tight spell, SJ picking up the key wicket of the opposition captain for 37. Mark Gallop then produced a wonderful spell of seam bowling to show how much we have missed him over the last few weeks. He bowled his 10 overs for only 16 runs and picked up 3 wickets. Freddie then game to party, bowling a fiery 4 overs for only 8 runs and also picked up 3 wickets ably supported by George, who bowled his 9 overs for only 19. To bowl Brookweald out for 116 on a perfect batting wicket was a magnificent effort and we were very confident of winning.
The run chase ended up being relative simple with only the threat of rain a real concern. Gilf, opening the batting for the first time this season scored a well crafted 62 not out to anchor the innings. Josh 22, and Harry 13 moved the score along to see us home in only 21 overs.
The season ended with 2 fine wins and the fact we finished 7th is slightly misleading given we were only 39 points off 3rd place and missed the chance to beat Woodham and Terling due to the weather. Without doubt we have the strongest bowling attack in the division and with plenty of young batsman maturing I am confident we can push for promotion again next season.
Thank you to everyone for their commitment in what has been a trying season at times. The team spirit is fantastic and despite a long losing run during the season we always played the game in the correct manner.
