High Roding’s 2nd XI arrived at a very wet looking Bengeo’s Cricket Club, armed with a convincing win in the last game!

After a lengthy strategic discussion between Tom and Opposition’s skipper, we have agreed to play a 38 overs-a-side game, on a very wet looking wicket.

With the weather forecast looking to dry up the wicket, both teams were looking to field and take advantage of the wet (and bouncy) wicket. Unfortunately High Roding loss the toss, and unsurprisingly asked to bat first.

We lost our leading run scorer, Tom for 4 in the third over (for a tricky bowl that bounced and moved), and the wicket - with it’s uneven bounce - looks very tricky to bat.

RMJ (64) and Tahir (55) batted extremely well to put a 113 run partnership, despite very tricky batting conditions. With 124 runs on the board at the end of the 23rd over, High Roding was looking for a good competitive score. Will (47 NO) and George (25 NO) batted very well towards the end to reach 215 runs for the loss of three wickets.

The wicket and the outfield drying up very quickly, Bengeo’s team looked very strong from the start. With a flat wicket to bowl on, High Roding’s bowlers did well to contain a strong Bengeo’s batting lineup to 117 for five at the end of 24th over, thanks to some great bowling from GMJ, who took 3 wickets in his first spell.

With 100 runs to get, in the final 14 overs, Bengeo’s were firmly on the back foot, by the time their hard hitting skipper walked in to the middle.

The partnership and innings of the match, led by their skipper (87 NO), ensured that they reach the score on the 35th over.

Even though High Roding lost the game, we walked away with lot of positives and enthusiasm for the next game and our heads held up high.

Finally a special mention goes to Charlie Sturge, who fielded brilliantly today!
