High Roding Cricket Club Won by 1 wicket

Match report For the second week running the mighty 3rds won by 1 wicket off the penultimate ball of the game. After winning the toss, Cloghams opted to bat on a lovely sunny day and made the most of it by making 259/5 off their 40 overs, largely due to a 171 run 2nd wicket partnership. Pick of the bowlers were Will Smith who bowled superbly for his 3/35 and Charlie Martin who bowled his last 4 overs at the end of the innings for 9 runs leaving High Roding with a chaseable target. In reply, Tom Shrager and Neil Doyle put together a brisk second wicket partnership before Neil fell for 31. Alistair Bushell then joined Tom for a useful 4th wicket partnership which kept High Roding up with the rate before Tom was unfortunate to be run out for a superb 73. Alistair and Jonny Smith then stabilised the innings before Alistair was eventually out for 40. Jonny was then joined by the colts with George Welland and Stanley Bellieu Clarke adding some useful runs and support. Having scored a crucial 45, Jonny fell holing out to long off trying to push us to victory. With 32 needed from the last 4 overs, it was up to the colts to see us over the line. Will Smith and Charlie Martin ran with real purpose between the wickets before Will hit a majestic straight 6 off the last ball of the 39th over to leave 9 runs needed off the last over. When Will was out going for another six, it was time for The Finisher (aka Mark Anders) to reprise his role from last week and join Charlie at the crease to see us home, which Charlie did magnificently with a boundary and a 2 to seal the game. A fantastic game played against a great opposition on a beautiful sunny day. Does it get any better?
