High Roding Cricket Club 3rd XI v Stansted Hall & Elsenham 2nd XI on Sat 11 May 2024 at 1pm
High Roding Cricket Club Won
Match report
HR won the toss and on a sunny day decided to bat. Pilch and Clarke making their reformed 3rd XI debuts got us off to a cracking start but fell to ordinary shots to poor deliveries. Wickets then fell regularly until Andrew Skinner entered the frame. Taking the heat out of Stansteds best bowler and allowing Welly to whack the other bowlers around at the other end. He enjoyed a 50 partnership with Welly at a very important time, eventually ending up NOT OUT on 13. Welly fell a few overs from the end to and poor shot from a short ball but had notched a useful 82 giving the home side a decent total of 208.
In return Jamie Smart continued his good bowling with and excellent spell of 8 overs taking out batsman 1-3 . All of the juniors bowled well with the pick being Stanley with a couple of really good wickets to exceptional in-swing bowling.
George W economical at 3 runs per over. Jeff Clarke came on to throttle any hopes of a Stansted revival with a spell of 5 overs 2 for 12 runs. The fielding was generally good with some polishing still to be had. Welly dropped and uncatchable one at slip to Jeff Clarkes medium/quick spin bowling. Fortunately Bertie proved more reliable taking all three of his chances. Pilcher kept superbly on what was a very challenging wicket and has the photo evidenced bruises to prove it.
In the end a comfortable win that could have been very different but for a few decent performances. All players were involved and we all had fun.
